Interesting finding at a thermal inspection of a basement car park

Water ingress in car park basements is always an issue, and regular scans are a good part of any maintenance program for these structures. You often find water ingress in many places, usually appearing as cooler portions than the surrounding areas when the ambient temperature is 20°C in the early afternoon.

But what about hot water?

This is a great image of hot water coming out of this pipe, ‘caught in the act’ as such. An unusual finding but it’s likely to be responsible for most of the water damage on the floors beneath. Visual inspection showed water coming out of the pipe at the time, but with a lack of a contact thermometer I made no attempt to take an accurate temperature measurement. However, warmer than the ambient walls is quite unusual, but makes for a stunning thermal image!
